We left home at 3:50 this morning and headed to the airport. Overlooking the very early hour, the flight was awesome. JetBlue is my new favorite airline. There was free DirectTV, plenty of legroom, great snack options, we left and took off on time, and (this was just luck) the plane was practically empty. Ellie slept basically the entire flight to Orlando. From there, we switched over the Southwest which was no big deal because we had not luggage. The 2.5 hour layover was a bit of a pain with a two years old (2 accidents, which is rare; I got gum on my pants; the "fruit salad and yogurt" was about 1/8 of a cup of yogurt plus those orange and green melons with 1 bit of pineapple and 1 strawberry) but once we got on the plane, things were good. We sat next to an 80 year old woman who chose to sit by us, she said, because she thought I needed someone helpful to sit with. She totally bossed the flight attendants around (who were very sweet) and had them bringing me extra pillows, snacks, and water. Ellie spent the first 2 hours snacking and watching movies on her iPod. She was crabby for about 5 minutes and then napped for the past hour.

So, we are now at my parents' house. There is snow on the ground! Ellie had a great time playing with the snow already. She looks so cute in a jacket, pants, hat, and gloves!. I'm not used to seeing her with so many clothes on. Anyway, we made it and now vacation can begin! Baby can come any time he wants!

Phew! I was a little worried after your last appointment that he was in a hurry! Now I hope he waits for Joe...

Oh, and do they have wifi where you are planning to give birth? I am expecting iPhone posting, or at the least a prompt announcement!

I haven't been able to find anything on the web about Internet access. I have my first dr. appt on the 29th so I"ll be sure to ask then. Labor and Post!

By the way - I'm just curious - about the total times for your labors with Casper and Dillo. I know everyone is different - just curious!

Casper: first indication was water breaking. Total time: 16 hours.

Dillo: show at 8pm, first contraction 1am (then I went back to sleep), 3 am woke with contractions every 10 minutes, water broke 3:20 am, baby born 5:15. So if you start from 3am, which was really the start of active labor, 2 hours 15 minutes.

If there's a 3, home birth may be accidental at this rate.

Ha!

I'm just trying to think ahead - I'm even farther from the hospital this time (maybe 1:20) but I really don't want to spend hours at the hospital. My dad is already trying to get me to agree the moment anything happens. (He's a total worrier about anything.) The downside of having parents as labor support is that you are sort of at a disadvantage (i.e I feel a bit more obligated to listen to them than I would my husband) but at the same time, it's my baby/labor.

mr. flea was very concerned about when to go in for #2. The OBs we asked said, "Things vary but expect a second labor to be half the length of the first, and if your water breaks, hie thee to the hospital ASAP." Worked for us.

Given your first labor, unless he's poorly positioned I would expect it to go fast. If it were me, I'd head for the hospital as soon as active labor started (i.e. regular, strong contractions).

I'm glad the trip was easy & you are safe & sound in NM. And for that 80 year old woman (that's something I try to do flying sw. Once when I helped a woman & her son in the gate area, she totally saved me a seat in the bulkhead!)

Yeah, this was my 2nd SW experience but the other was pretty bad. People were super nice this time.
