I just finished a phone interview for UNC. They started asking me stuff back when I was pregnant with Ellie and have continued even though they can no longer do home visits. Anyway, it got me to wondering how much TV kids really watch. So, if you don't mind sharing, I'm curious how much TV your kids watch, if you are a parent.

Since I'm asking, I'll start. Ellie averages maybe 1-1.5 hours a day. Mostly she watches TV when we get home and I'm getting dinner ready and when I'm putting Frisco to bed but that averages about 1.5 hours, I think. On the weekends, it is realistically more like 2-2.5 hours. She almost never watches our TV shows with us, so about 95% of what she is watching is Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse, Dora, and maybe Handy Manny and Bunnytown. And pretty much any Pixar movie.

Ours varies a lot - by day of the week, by time of the year. Right now, since both kids are in school/day care, it's very little. Occasionally 10-30 minutes in the mornings before school (not if I'M in charge! it makes getting out the door hell) and occasionally 5:30-6pm. Saturday mornings they may watch an hour or two. Weekend afternoons, if it's rainy or Dillo actually naps, we may put on a movie for Casper.

We watched a little Olympics together, but they tended to get bored. I prefer to keep it on PBS, so with the current schedule we see Curious George, Arthur, or Clifford. Saturdays we see Thomas and Sesame. Casper saw once and now asks for Fairly OddParents on Nick, and she likes SpongeBob too, but I'm not as wild about either. For movies, we own all of Pixar, Wallace and Gromit, Muppet Show, Spirit, Peter Pan, Totoro.

With me I let Chris watch a show in the morning while I dress and then in the afternoon after dinner. On the weekends I'm a little more relaxed in the morning. He just runs in and out of the living room usually.

With his dad he watches tv all day long because Stephen sleeps on the couch instead of interacting with his son . . . but that is a whole other story.

This is interesting to me. We don't have cable and don't watch TV ourselves, and we hope it to be the same for our kid(s).
